Imphal: The representatives of the Anal, a Naga tribe native to Manipur in Northeast India and parts of Myanmar, called on Manipur Chief Ministerย Yumnam Khemchand Singh at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Imphal, on Thursday.
The Anal Tribe Union, Chandel, led by its President P.S. Monihring, highlighted major grievances and challenges in Chandel District, focusing on key areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, road connectivity, and youth welfare.
They also emphasized the need to preserve local language and culture and called for better administrative coordination to ensure effective governance. The Union sought the governmentโs attention and intervention to address these issues for the balanced development of Chandel District.
The Chief Minister, on his X post, wrote: “Called on by members of the Anal Tribe Union, Chandel, led by its President Shri P.S. Monihring, at the Secretariat today. I warmly reciprocated their greetings and appreciated the constructive interaction.”
He added, “Reaffirmed my firm commitment to fostering lasting peace and harmony in the state, while accelerating infrastructure development and strengthening road connectivity in Chandel District to ensure inclusive growth and progress for all.”
The Anal people, a major Scheduled Tribe in Chandel District, are primarily located in this southeastern district bordering Myanmar and are considered one of the oldest tribes in Manipur.
The Anal have a rich culture, a distinctive language, and are closely associated with other Naga tribes in the region.
Most of the Anal population resides in Chandel District, with some villages in Churachandpur and Thoubal districts. Chakpikarong is a significant area for the Anal people.
