Guwahati: Eastern Kuki Chiefsโ Association (EKCA) has strongly condemned Thursdayโs early morning attack in Kultuk village in Manipur’s Kamjong district, in which two civilians were killed and seven houses, including a church were set ablaze.
The attack reportedly took place around 4:00 am, during which unidentified armed assailants entered the village and torched at least seven houses, including the village church, causing extensive damage to property and places of worship.
Two victims were identified as Letminlun Haokip, Head Deacon of Kultuh Church and Lunminthang Haokip, Youth Chairman of the same church. Both were described as respected community leaders actively involved in church and social work. Two other civilians were also injured and are currently undergoing treatment.
In its statement, the EKCA condemned the attack as โheinous and barbaric,โ alleging the involvement of โTangkhul Narco Terrorists identified as NSCN (Eastern Flank) and Shanni National Army (SNA) Junta,โ though these claims have not been independently verified.
The association described the incident as a serious violation of human rights and an attack on civilian safety, religious institutions and community harmony. It also extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
The EKCA has urged authorities and security agencies to launch an immediate investigation, identify the perpetrators and strengthen security in vulnerable areas to prevent further escalation of violence in the region.
