Joint security forces arrested five alleged underground cadres, recovering arms, ammunition, documents and two vehicles.

Imphal: Central security forces, working in coordination with the Manipur Police, arrested five suspected members of different underground outfits and recovered arms, ammunition, incriminating documents, and two vehicles during a series of operations across the valley districts over the past 36 hours, officials said on Monday.

In one operation, the joint team apprehended an alleged active cadre of the banned United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), Salam Bijanda Singh, also known as Deepak and Major (37). A native of Arong Nongmaikhong Mayai Leikai in Kakching district and currently residing at Kakwa Liwa Lambi, Maibam Leikai in Imphal West, he was arrested near Karkinos Hospital on Porompat Ayangpalli Road.

In a separate operation, security personnel arrested Thongam Preethyngamba Meitei (26), an alleged active member of the banned Kangleipak Communist Partyโ€“Nongdrenkhomba (KCP-N), from Wangkhei Ayangpalli Road. He is a resident of Singjamei Makha Khongnang Pheidekpi in Imphal West district.

Another alleged KCP (Nongdrenkhomba) operative, identified as Md. Motim, also known as Lanthoiba and Nanao (31), was arrested from Kiyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai at Khurai Nandeibam Leikai. Officials alleged that he was involved in extortion activities.

Security forces also arrested Shaikhom Sunil Singh, alias Ibohal (45), an alleged active cadre and self-styled Corporal of the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA). A resident of Heirok Part-II Bazar, he was apprehended near Lamboithong in Wangbal, Thoubal district, and an Alto car was seized during the operation.

In another operation, security personnel arrested Chagisongtanbou Nkhamnamai (46), a resident of Makui Naga Village, on Yairipok Pechi Road near Angom Football Turf in Thoubal district. A search led to the recovery of an SLR rifle with a magazine, 10 live rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, and a Bolero vehicle.

Officials said all five accused, along with the seized arms, ammunition, vehicles, and other recovered materials, have been handed over to the respective local police stations for further investigation.
