Imphal: The Government of Manipur has directed the advance lifting and distribution of foodgrains under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) for August, September and October 2026.

All district authorities and the Food Corporation of India (FCI) have been instructed to complete the process by August 31, benefiting more than 20 lakh people across the state.

The move comes in compliance with directives issued by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India.

Under the NFSA, Manipur has more than 5.8 lakh ration card holders, covering over 20 lakh beneficiaries.

Eligible families receive highly subsidised foodgrains through the public distribution system, which includes two categories of beneficiaries: Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY), covering the “poorest of the poor”, and Priority Households (PHH).

According to the government, the advance distribution of NFSA foodgrains is intended to create space in Food Corporation of India (FCI) godowns ahead of new crop procurement, ease logistical challenges during seasonal disruptions and ensure uninterrupted food security for vulnerable households without requiring repeated visits to fair price shops.

The Directorate of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAF&PD), Government of Manipur, has appealed to all eligible NFSA beneficiaries to collect their foodgrain entitlements for the three months in advance.

Beneficiaries have been advised to contact their respective Fair Price Shops (FPSs) promptly to collect their rations before the August 31 deadline.

For assistance or to report grievances related to the distribution process, beneficiaries have been asked to contact the local district authorities or the CAF&PD Directorate.
