Imphal: Senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer H. Gyan Prakash has been appointed Chairman of the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC), according to a Raj Bhavan communiquรฉ issued on Friday.
The appointment has been made under Article 316 of the Constitution of India. Gyan Prakash will hold office for six years from the date he assumes charge or until he attains the age of 62, whichever is earlier.
According to the communiquรฉ, his pay, allowances and other service conditions will be governed by the Manipur Public Service Commission Regulations, 1972, as amended from time to time.
In accordance with Regulation 5 of the MPSC Regulations, 1972, Gyan Prakash will be deemed to have retired from the Indian Administrative Service from the date he assumes office as the MPSC Chairman.
Before his appointment, Gyan Prakash was serving as Commissioner and Secretary in the Education Department, Government of Manipur.
An IAS officer of the 2003 batch of the Manipur cadre, he has held several key administrative positions during his career.
Born on July 29, 1966, Gyan Prakash holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Delhi. His appointment is expected to strengthen the functioning of the state’s constitutional recruitment body.
