Guwahati: Three people were injured in a shooting incident near Leilon Vaiphei and Konsakhul villages in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Monday, amid renewed tension in the area.
The injured were identified as Genlenmang Vaiphei (18), Lunliandaw Vaiphei (20) and Paogou Lal (18). Sources said all three belong to the Kuki community.
Following the incident, they were taken to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal for treatment under security escort.
Residents of nearby areas reported panic after gunfire was heard in the locality. However, authorities have not yet clarified how the incident unfolded or who was involved in the firing.
Security personnel and civil administration officials have increased vigilance in the area and are keeping a close watch on the situation to prevent any further disturbances.
Authorities have not yet disclosed who was involved in the firing, and no formal statement on the incident has been issued by either the district administration or the Manipur Police so far.
