Imphal: Manipur Police have arrested three alleged cadres of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) in connection with a series of grenade attacks targeting homes in Imphal East and Imphal West districts.

The arrests were made on June 29 during an intelligence-based operation at Sawombung under Lamlai Police Station. The accused were identified as Sorokhaibam Rohit Meitei alias Salai (24), Salam Yaiphaba Meitei alias Khajing (20), both from Sawombung, and a juvenile.

The operation stemmed from an FIR registered at Porompat Police Station in connection with the serial attacks.

According to the police, investigation revealed that the accused had received a consignment of six hand grenades from an underground handler. Five of the grenades were allegedly hurled at residential locations across Imphal East and Imphal West districts.

Among the targeted properties was the residence of Khurailatpam Bhavananda Sharma in the Brahmapur area of Imphal East, which was attacked twiceโ€”on the nights of June 10-11 and June 25-26. The incidents caused extensive damage to the property and triggered local sit-in protests.

Following the arrests, police recovered the sixth unexploded hand grenade along with two scooters allegedly used by the accused during the attacks.

The two adult accused have been remanded to police custody, while the juvenile has been produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.

Police said further investigation is underway to identify and trace other members of the alleged network involved in the attacks.
