Singh requested enhanced financial aid to promote inclusive growth in Manipur.

Imphal: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday assured Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh that the Centre would extend full support to revive the state’s financial health, which has been severely impacted by the ethnic violence.

An official statement from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat said that Khemchand Singh met the Union Finance Minister at her office in New Delhi. During the meeting, Sitharaman pledged assistance for the rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and reiterated the Centre’s commitment to the state’s economic recovery.

Singh requested enhanced financial aid to promote inclusive growth in Manipur. Describing the discussion as constructive, he thanked the Union Minister for her patient attention to the state’s concerns and expressed appreciation for her continued support towards Manipur’s progress and prosperity.

This was the first meeting between Singh and the Union Finance Minister since he assumed office as Chief Minister on February 4, 2026. He was accompanied by his two Deputy Chief Ministers, Losii Dikho of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) and Nemcha Kipgen of the BJP. Kipgen, who hailsKangpokpi district, is the first woman to hold the post of Deputy Chief Minister in Manipur.
