Imphal: Three civilians were killed and several houses damaged in a pre-dawn armed attack on a village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Friday.

The attack took place around 4 am at Loibol village in the New Keithelmanbi area, where heavy firing was reported.

The deceased were identified as Letkhongam Haokip, Tinmary Haokip and Jangminlal Haokip.

According to sources, several houses were set ablaze during the attack, forcing residents to flee to safer locations. The extent of the damage has not yet been officially assessed.

Security forces were deployed to the area following the incident, and the situation is being closely monitored. Authorities had not issued an official statement on the circumstances surrounding the attack or the identity of those responsible at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) condemned the killings and expressed concern over the loss of civilian lives and destruction of property.

In a statement, the organisation urged the Centre and security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation, identify those responsible and ensure appropriate legal action.

KIM also called for enhanced security measures in vulnerable areas to prevent further incidents and ensure the safety of residents.

The incident is the latest in a series of violent episodes reported from parts of Manipur, where security concerns persist and incidents of violence continue to be reported.
