Manipuri film Ashengba Iral wins best producer award at Bay of Bengal festival

Imphal: The Manipuri film Ashengba Iral has won the Best Producer Award at the International Film Festival, Bay of Bengal 2025.

The awards ceremony took place on Monday night at Sarat Sadan in Howrah, near the Howrah Railway Station, West Bengal. The festival was organized by the Indian Film Makers’ Association and featured a total of 23 films from various countries.

Produced by Kshetrimayum Subadani under the banner of Dosuyali Film Production, Manipur, Ashengba Iral is based on a story written by Subadani herself, who is also a noted short story writer.

The film was directed by OC Meira, with the screenplay penned by Manaobi MM. Presented by Leishang, proprietor of Leishna Company, the film stars Avi Khundrakpam, Ithoi Oinam, Rashi, and Nongthanganbi in key roles.

The film has earned several accolades in the past, including Best Music Director, Best Female Singer, and Best Child Artiste at the 15th Manipur State Film Awards in 2023. It also secured the Best Feature Film North East and Best Director awards at the Prag Cine Awards 2023, the Jury Mention Award at the 2nd NIRI International Film Festival 2023 in Kolkata, and Best Editor along with another Best Child Artiste award at SSS MANIFA 2023.

Kshetrimayum Subadani, the producer, has a rich history in Manipuri cinema, with earlier projects including feature films like Leikhamton and Icheton, as well as short films such as Tingkhang Satpa, Leiyisingi Wangmada, and Lockdown.

Expressing their joy at this recognition, the production team shared their happiness in a press release issued by Khomdram Dorendro, Chairman of Dosuyali Film Production.
