Guwahati: Chief Minister of Meghalaya and NPP chief, Conrad Sangma said that his party has withdrawn support from the N Biren Singh-led government in Manipur and not the BJP.
Speaking to the media, the CM clarified that the withdrawal of support is specific to Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and not the BJP or the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as a whole.
Sangma stated that his party has lost confidence in Biren Singh, given the deteriorating situation in Manipur and the suffering of the people.

He stated that the NPP’s withdrawal of support is specific to Biren Singh’s leadership and not a general withdrawal from the BJP or NDA.
The NPP had been supporting the BJP-led government in Manipur since 2017 and had secured seven seats in the 60-member house in the 2022 Assembly polls.

However, the withdrawal of support is not expected to impact the survival of the Biren Singh government, as the BJP has a majority on its own in the Manipur Assembly.
Sangma also mentioned that he had called up central BJP leaders to suggest confidence-building measures, but these efforts were not successful due to a trust deficit.
The NPP may consider supporting the Manipur government again if there is a change in leadership, he said.
