Shillong: Professor Jyoti J. Mozika of the Department of Law, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of National Law University (NLU), Meghalaya. She is expected to assume office in August.
The Vice-Chancellor’s post had remained vacant since the retirement of the university’s founding Vice-Chancellor, Professor Indrajit Dube, in February.
During the intervening period, Founding Registrar Kerpa Meida Lyngdoh Nongbri served as the Acting Vice-Chancellor.
Professor Mozika has more than 27 years of experience in legal education, research and academic administration. She completed her B.A. LL.B. and LL.M. programmes as a gold medallist and earned her Ph.D. in Law from the University of North Bengal.
During her academic career, she has served four terms as Head of the Department of Law at NEHU and has held several academic and administrative positions in universities and professional bodies across the country.
She is also associated with various areas of legal research and academic development. Her appointment adds to her long association with legal education in the Northeast.
She is married to Nitesh Mozika, Senior Advocate at the High Court of Meghalaya and Deputy Solicitor General of India.
