Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre has planned to provide free LPG connections to a total of 3 lakh people in Tripura.

“Modi government is all set to provide 3 lakh free LPG connections (25000 per month) for cooking under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana scheme in Tripura,” the Tripura Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stated in its Twitter handle on Monday.

As per information, there has been rapid increase in the distribution of the number of LPG connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana scheme in Tripura. According to information, the number of connection released so far in the State is 41,962.

Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan on his Twitter handle, on Tuesday stated, “People of North East share a special bond with the nature. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will help in further strengthening their bond. Tripura has the potential to become the first Green state in the country.”

On February 8, 2018, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Pradhan said as many as 3 crore additional free cooking gas (LPG) connections will be given to poor households by March 2020 at an extra expense of Rs 4,800 crore.

The PMUY was launched in May 2016 with a target of providing 5 crore LPG connections to the poor women in a span of three years.

A total of 3.36 crore connections have already been distributed among the women across the country.

Pradhan said that the 5 crore connections were to be given by 2018-19 fiscal year end and the total budgetary allocation made was Rs 8,000 crore.
