Dimapur: Two persons were charred to death after a coal-laden truck overturned and caught fire at Lotovi village under Kuhuboto in Niuland district on Thursday night.
Officials from the Fire and Emergency Services said the incident occurred at around 11.55 p.m. Three fire tenders from the Central Fire Station, Dimapur, were dispatched to the site and brought the blaze under control.
The Dimapur Police PRO said the victims, identified as the driver and the handyman of the truck, were brothers.
According to preliminary information, the truck overturned before catching fire. The two occupants were trapped inside the vehicle and could not be rescued.
The bodies were recovered and shifted to the District Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police said further investigation is in progress.
