Guwahati: A woman doctor from Nagaland, currently a third-year resident in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Gorakhpur, has alleged molestation, racial harassment, and sexual assault by three unidentified men on the night of February 22.
The incident reportedly occurred around 8 p.m. when the doctor was returning from Orion Mall. According to her complaint, the accused followed her for nearly 1.5 kilometres, made obscene remarks, and hurled racial slurs targeting her Northeastern identity. One of the men allegedly removed his shirt in an apparent attempt to intimidate her.
Near Gate No. 2 of the AIIMS campus, close to an Army camp, one of the men reportedly touched her inappropriately. The accused fled the scene after the doctor raised an alarm.
Following the incident, the doctor approached the North East Federation of All India Resident Doctors (NAFORD), reporting the racial harassment and sexual assault. The organisation highlighted the case as an instance of racial violence on X and also wrote to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, urging immediate action to identify and arrest the perpetrators, ensure protection for the victim, and pursue strict legal proceedings.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Kaustubh confirmed that an FIR has been registered under relevant sections based on the doctorโs complaint. CCTV footage from the vicinity is under examination, and a motorcycle used by the accused has been identified. Four police teams have been deployed to trace and apprehend the men.
Police officials have assured that strict action will be taken in accordance with the investigationโs findings.
