Of the total, 48,464 units fall in the micro category, most of them nano enterprises with an annual turnover of less than Rs 25 lakh.

Dimapur: Nagaland has registered 48,655 enterprises on the Udyam portal as of March 9, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio told the Assembly on Tuesday, underlining the steady growth of the state’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector.

Of the total, 48,464 units fall in the micro category, most of them nano enterprises with an annual turnover of less than Rs 25 lakh. The remaining include 175 small enterprises and 16 medium enterprises.

Replying to a discussion on the role of MSMEs in strengthening Nagaland’s economy on the fourth day of the eighth session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly in Kohima, Rio highlighted several initiatives aimed at expanding enterprise activity in the state.

He said the Chief Minister’s Micro Finance Initiative (CMMFI) has helped establish 777 MSME units since its launch, generating investments of more than Rs 65 crore through government subsidies and credit linkages.

The units, largely engaged in transport services, retail trade, hospitality and small-scale manufacturing, are expected to generate over 1,500 direct employment opportunities across the state.

Rio also informed the House that 13 MSME development projects are currently under implementation, while 15 additional proposals have been submitted to the Union Ministry of MSME for approval.

“These projects aim to strengthen industrial infrastructure and promote cluster-based development to enhance productivity and competitiveness,” he said.

Under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), the state has set a target of 454 projects for the 2025–26 financial year, of which 66 have already been sanctioned by banks. Over the past five years, 3,715 beneficiaries in Nagaland have been supported through the scheme.

Rio said the state government is also implementing the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) programme to boost competitiveness through capacity-building initiatives, registration drives and buyer–seller meets.

In addition, the Prime Minister’s Vishwakarma Scheme has received more than 25,000 applications from artisans in Nagaland, with training and financial assistance being extended to eligible beneficiaries, he added.
