The Dr T Ao football tournament will kick start at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Nagaland capital Kohima on January 20 next.

The tournament involving the Northeast will continue till January 28 next.

According to sources, all the eight north-eastern states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Sikkim and the host state of Nagaland have confirmed participation.

Officials informed that the teams will start arriving in Kohima from January 18 next.

The tournament will be held on league cum knockout basis.

The final will be played on January 28 coinciding with the birth anniversary of Dr T Ao.

The winning team will go home richer by Rs 10 lakh besides trophy and certificate.

The runners-up will pocket Rs 6,00,000 with trophy and certificate.

The third place and fourth place will receive Rs 2,00,000 and Rs 10,000 with certificate respectively

There are several other prizes like player of the tournament, fair play winner, highest scorer, best goal keeper/defender/midfield/forward and man of the final.

The highest scorer, best goalkeeper, best defender, best midfielder, best forward and man of the final match will pocket Rs 10,000 each.

The champion team’s coach and manager will also get Rs 15,00 each with certificate while the runners-up team coach and manager will receive Rs 10,000 each with certificate.

The inauguration of the Northeast Dr T Ao Trophy 2020 will be graced by Nagaland Governor R N Ravi.

The inauguration is scheduled at 9 am on January 20 next.
