Agartala: Tripuraโs economy has registered significant growth over the past two years, with the stateโs Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) increasing to an estimated Rs 89,682 crore in 2024-25, while per capita income has climbed to Rs 1.93 lakh, officials said on Monday.
The figures were presented during the state-level observance of the 20th Statistics Day held at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala.
The event was organised by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES) to commemorate the 133rd birth anniversary of noted statistician Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis.
According to official estimates, Tripuraโs GSDP has grown from Rs 70,633 crore in 2022-23 to Rs 89,682 crore in 2024-25. During the same period, the stateโs per capita income increased from Rs 1.54 lakh to Rs 1.93 lakh.
Planning (Statistics), Tribal Welfare, and Handloom, Handicrafts and Sericulture Minister Bikash Debbarma was scheduled to attend the programme as the chief guest but could not participate due to other official engagements.
Director of Census Operations Ratan Biswas attended the programme as the special guest, while Director of Economics and Statistics Devananda Reang presided over the event.
Addressing the gathering, Biswas noted the importance of the upcoming Census 2027 and said house-listing activities are expected to begin in August.
He stressed the crucial role of census data in helping governments formulate evidence-based policies and development programmes.
The theme for Statistics Day 2026, announced by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, was “Unlocking the Potential of Administrative Data,” focusing on data sharing, standardisation, interoperability, and institutional coordination for informed governance.
More than 250 participants, including government officials, heads of departments, faculty members, students, and statistical personnel, attended the programme.
Officials said the Directorate of Economics and Statistics showcased its ongoing surveys and preparations for the 81st round of the National Sample Survey.
The department also outlined preliminary activities for Census 2027, including house-listing operations and population enumeration exercises.
A demonstration of self-enumeration for Census 2027 was presented during the event. The directorate also showcased the Sustainable Development Goals Monitoring Web Portal developed in collaboration with the National Institute of Technology, Agartala, and released the publication titled “Tripura At-a-Glance 2025-26.”
The latest economic indicators presented at the programme point to steady growth in the state’s economy and income levels over the past two financial years.
