Agartala: Tripura Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy on Friday said that he had met on Wednesday the rape survivor from the state, who had undergone brutal torture by her live-in partner, and spoke to police in Haryana and Delhi as well.

Briefing the media, Roy said he went to Delhi to meet the girl and her parents in the hospital where she is receiving treatment.

Expressing his concerns, the Minister said, โ€œThe police will do their duty, and the accused in this case shall be punished as per the law. He is already under arrest. But I think students who go out of state for studies must be careful about themselves. In this case as well, the victim, from our Sepahijala district, trusted her friend and moved to live together. When you are away from home, you should be careful with whom you befriend. Parents should be equally watchful of their children living outside the state.โ€

According to police and the victimโ€™s family, the girl met the accused, identified as 19-year-old Shivam from Delhiโ€™s Narela area, through an online platform.

She was allegedly confined and assaulted repeatedly over a three-day period in mid-February. In a distress call to her mother on February 16, the victim said she feared for her life and pleaded for help before the matter was reported to Gurugram Police.

Chief Minister Manik Saha has also spoken to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who assured that necessary action would be taken to ensure justice in the matter.
