Gerard Nus, the head coach of NorthEast United FC, expressed his happiness with the way that the Highlanders is shaping up ahead of Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2020-21.

The Spanish head coach will arrive on Indian shores on Friday along with his coaching staff and Federico Gallego, who has been retained by the club.

Nus has roped in a number of Indian and foreign players who are in their prime as the club look to qualify for just their second Hero ISL playoffs.

โ€œI am happy with the roster that we have and the new players that we are bringing. We have a solid mix of experienced and young players. We want to build something special,โ€ the 35-year-old head coach shared with goal.com.

Nus is looking to bring the best out of his players and is working towards inculcating a fighting mentality in the squad.

โ€œWe will have a clear identity of play and will fight for every single ball until the last minute of each game,โ€ he said.

โ€œWe will create an environment where we will get the best out of every player, making each other better every day,โ€ Nus added.

โ€œI am confident that with the help of our supporters, we will achieve all of our goals,โ€ he further said.

The Highlanders have produced some of the best talents in the Hero ISL since the inception of the league, and Nus is looking forward to using a few of these talented youngsters to the clubโ€™s benefit.

โ€œI am aware of the talent that this region has. I am a big believer in providing opportunities to the players that work hard and I do not think it is difficult to get young players into the first team; it all comes down to finding the right time and giving them the confidence that they deserve,โ€ the Spaniard said.

โ€œIt is a beautiful process and my coaching staff and I will do our best to help them develop because it is not only important for our club but also for the progress and improvement of Indian football,โ€ Nus concluded.
