Shillong:ย The Transport Department in Meghalaya has reportedly issued 20 permits for two-wheeler taxis in Shillong, following a decision made after protests from riders in July 2022.
Riders who receive a permit will be required to sign an agreement with Jaiaw Ehrngiew Transport Society (JETS 24X7), a local bike taxi aggregator.
Bookings for rides must be made through the JETS 24X7 app, and riders cannot pick up passengers offline.

“We will designate parking spaces to operate as bike taxi aggregators,” said Pynskhemlang W Uriah, Managing Director of JETS 24X7.
He added that individuals interested in becoming bike taxi operators can still apply for permits, as many previous applicants have found other employment.
