Guwahati: Conservative activist Charlie Kirk died after being shot at an event at the Utah Valley University on Wednesday, President Donald Trump informed.

“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife, Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The shooting comes amid a spike in political violence in the United States. across all parts of the ideological spectrum.

Kirk in fact served as a personal aide to Donald Trump Jr.

A video showed Kirk hit in the neck.

Witnesses said that he suffered from severe blood loss after the shooting.

Authorities say only a single shot was fired.

According to AP, a person who who was taken into custody was not the suspect.

There was no clarity as to whether authorities were still searching the campus for a suspect.

Pictures taken after the shooting show chaos, as people carrying American flags and wearing Make America Great Again hats frantically tried to run away from Kirk’s stage.

Kirk is survived by his wife, Erika Frantzve, and their two children.

As investigation continues, Utah Valley University has shut its campus and cancelled classes “until further notice.”

The students have been advised to “secure in place” on campus until police can escort them off campus.
