Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday inaugurated the new office of the National People’s Party (NPP) in Imphal, the state capital of Manipur.

Conrad K Sangma, who is also the national president of the NPP, while sharing some pictures of the event, said the inaugural ceremony of the party office was attended by Manipur deputy chief minister and party leader Joykumar Singh, party’s Cabinet ministers in Manipur and other party workers.

“Inaugurated the new NPP office in Imphal today in the presence of Hon’ble Dy. CM of Manipur, Sh. Joykumar Singh, Cabinet Ministers from the party and party workers,” Conrad Sangma tweeted.

“NPP is committed more than ever to serve the people of Manipur & NE. Thank all our supporters and well-wishers,” the NPP president said.

The National People’s Party (NPP) on August 26 expelled Thangminlien Kipgen a day after he was re-elected as its Manipur state president of the party uncontested for a 3-year term, stating that the process of his election violated the constitution of the party.

Meghalaya chief minister Sangma announced Kipgen’s expulsion in a video message.

“Former president of NPP Manipur state unit Thangminlien Kipgen acted against the constitution of the party by going ahead with the election and announcing the election,’’ he said.

Sangma also said a show-cause notice was issued to Kipgen and he was asked not to go ahead with the elections as it was not as per the party’s constitution.

“Therefore, I, as a president of NPP, decided that they will be expelled from the party,” Sangma said.
