The National Peopleโs Party (NPP) on August 26 expelled Thangminlien Kipgen a day after he was re-elected as its Manipur state president of the party uncontested for a 3-year term, stating that the process of his election violated the constitution of the party.
Meghalaya chief minister Sangma announced Kipgenโs expulsion in a video message.
โFormer president of NPP Manipur state unit Thangminlien Kipgen acted against the constitution of the party by going ahead with the election and announcing the election,โโ he said.
Sangma also said a show-cause notice was issued to Kipgen and he was asked not to go ahead with the elections as it was not as per the partyโs constitution.
โTherefore, I, as a president of NPP, decided that they will be expelled from the party,โ Sangma said.
