Imphal: Three more houses were razed in Litan Sareikhong village on February 12, despite intensified efforts by state authorities and the deployment of additional security forces to contain the unrest.

Sources reported that the incident was allegedly followed by gunfire from the opposite side of the village. No casualties have been reported so far.

Meanwhile, women from Tangkhul villages staged a protest condemning the ongoing violence, even in the presence of Central security forces, and demanded their immediate withdrawal from the village.

The protesters alleged, โ€œDespite the heavy security presence, villagers continue to face repeated attacks involving sophisticated weapons.โ€ They added that they could no longer rely on the forces for protection and called for their removal.

According to the women, suspected armed militants carried out the February 12 attack, which reportedly lasted nearly two hours. They claimed that Central security personnel were shielding the militants.

The protesters further alleged that militants in combat attire were seen moving freely in nearby Mongkot Chepu village with sophisticated weapons, while Tangkhul residents of Litan Sareikhong were reportedly prevented from entering their homes and forced to vacate the area.

Sources stated that frequent attacks by suspected armed militants targeting the Tangkhul Naga community have persisted despite the deployment of security forces.
