Dimapur: Nagaland’s Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Ajit Kumar Verma has issued an order for the mandatory physical verification of all firearms and ammunition within the district.

The DC said the order has been issued to ensure a peaceful environment for the upcoming bye-election to the 28-Koridang Assembly constituency.

Invoking Section 21 of the Arms Act, 1959, the DC has directed all arms license holders in Mokokchung district to report to their nearest police station.

He said licensees must present their arms, ammunition, and license booklets for physical verification during office hours on or before March 20.

To ensure strict monitoring, officers-in-charge of the concerned police stations have been asked to furnish daily reports in the prescribed format through the Mokokchung Senior Superintendent of Police.

These reports will detail the serial number, license holderโ€™s name, license number, UIN, type and number of arms, last renewal date, and quantity of ammunition available.
