Imphal: Security forces arrested nine suspected insurgents, including a woman cadre, during a series of counter-insurgency operations conducted across Manipur‘s Imphal Valley over the past 36 hours. A cache of arms, ammunition and other incriminating materials was also recovered during the operations, officials said.
The arrested individuals are allegedly linked to several banned insurgent outfits, including the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF)/People’s Liberation Army (PLA), National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM), United National Liberation Front (UNLF), Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) and United Revolutionary Front (URF). Several of those apprehended were reportedly involved in extortion activities in different parts of the valley.
In Imphal East district, security personnel arrested Thoudam Roshan Meitei alias Pibarel (21), an alleged RPF/PLA cadre, from Sawombung Maniyaiskul in Lamlai. Another suspect, Ningthoujam Premkumar Singh alias Punsirol alias Ibungo (35), linked to the NRFM, was apprehended near Yaripok-Lamlai crossing in Andro.
The forces also detained Yambem Momocha Singh alias Abungcha (34), an alleged KCP member, from Pourabi Makha Leikai in Lamlai. Meanwhile, Md. Nawaj Khan alias Hero (20), reportedly associated with the URF, was arrested from Minuthong Golapati on charges related to extortion.
In Imphal West district, two alleged RPF/PLA cadres were taken into custody from separate locations. They were identified as Roshan Yumnam (33) of Maklang Makha Leikai and self-styled Sergeant Major Khwairakpam Chetan Meitei alias Nanao alias Chumthang (37) of Thaoroijam Mamang Leikai.
Another arrest was made in Singjamei, where security forces apprehended Khumukcham Shyamsunder Singh (54), an alleged member of the UNLF (P), from Chinga Mathak Nameirakpam Leikai. A 9mm pistol along with a magazine was recovered from his possession.
A woman cadre identified as Laithangbam (O) Sanatombi Devi (24), associated with the banned KCP (Nongdrenkhomba) faction, was also arrested from Langol Game Village Zone-III in Lamphel.
In Bishnupur district, security personnel arrested Moirangthem Naresh Singh alias Thoungamba alias Chingsang (30), an alleged RPF/PLA operative, at the Ngaikhong Khunou Naka Check Point. Authorities also seized a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle bearing registration number MN01AB-2102 from his possession.
Officials said investigations are underway, and further operations against insurgent networks and extortion rackets in the state will continue.
