Assam flood crisis
CPI(M) seeks a probe into Assamโ€™s devastating floods, demanding a permanent solution, adequate relief and rehabilitation for victims.

Doomdooma: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) held a statewide โ€œDemand Dayโ€ on Friday, calling for an investigation into the factors behind the severe floods that affected four districts of Assam last month.

The party also sought a long-term solution to the stateโ€™s recurring flood crisis, along with adequate relief and rehabilitation for people affected by the disaster.

As part of the statewide programme, CPI(M) units submitted a memorandum containing 14 demands to the Chief Minister through local administrative authorities in different parts of Assam.

The memorandum called for an inquiry into the causes and contributing factors behind the floods in the four affected districts. It also urged the government to adopt measures aimed at finding a permanent solution to Assamโ€™s recurring flood problem and ensure proper relief and rehabilitation for affected communities.

In Tinsukia district, CPI(M) workers from the Doomdooma and Kakopather regional committees staged a demonstration outside the Doomdooma Revenue Circle Officerโ€™s office.

Following the protest, party representatives submitted the memorandum to the local administration, requesting that it be forwarded to the Chief Minister.

The CPI(M) said addressing Assamโ€™s flood crisis requires both immediate support for affected families and long-term measures to tackle the factors contributing to repeated flooding.

The partyโ€™s demands focus on strengthening relief and rehabilitation while seeking a comprehensive approach to reduce the impact of recurring floods across the state.
