North Lakhimpur: The flood situation in Assam’s Lakhimpur district remained unchanged on Tuesday as incessant rainfall and rising river levels inundated several villages and disrupted road connectivity in multiple areas.
Heavy rainfall in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh caused the Jiadhal and Kumotiya rivers to swell, flooding at least a dozen villages under the Subansiri Revenue Circle in Dhakuakhana sub-division. Among the worst-affected villages are Bordoibam, Chokolaguri, Gohoraguri, Trishul, Lezua, Dasgaon, Beelmukh and Ga-Dangorchuk.
The district administration has set up a relief camp at Mazgaon LP School in Bordoibam, where hundreds of affected residents have taken shelter.
Meanwhile, traffic on the Gogamukh-Ghilamora stretch of State Highway 22 remained suspended for the fourth consecutive day due to overflowing waters of the Champora river.
Flooding also persisted in western parts of the district, where the Sesa, Durpang and Dihiri rivers have damaged rural infrastructure and submerged agricultural land since Sunday.
District authorities said they are closely monitoring the situation and continuing rescue and relief operations. Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert amid persistent rainfall and rising water levels.
