The man, identified as Mubarak Ali, allegedly posted a Facebook comment threatening to kill Sarma in central Assam

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has received a fresh alleged death threat through social media, prompting Juria Police to search the residence of a man in Garaimari of Nagaon district.

The man, identified as Mubarak Ali, allegedly posted a Facebook comment threatening to kill Sarma in central Assam if he was paid Rs 2 crore.

Juria Police conducted a search at Aliโ€™s residence as part of their investigation into the alleged threat.

The social media post also allegedly included a โ€œPakistan Zindabadโ€ reference.

Police, however, are yet to establish the authenticity of the Facebook account and determine whether Ali was responsible for the alleged post.

Local residents told police that Ali has been living in Kerala for the past two years. They also made various allegations about his personal background and described him as a habitual thief.

The latest case comes days after another alleged social media death threat against Sarma led to the detention of a tailor from Morigaon district.

In that case, a Facebook account bearing the name of Abdul Mutaleb allegedly threatened to kill Sarma during one of the Chief Ministerโ€™s Facebook Live sessions. Mutaleb denied making the threat and claimed that someone had created a fake account using his photograph to implicate him.

Police are continuing to investigate the latest alleged threat. Further details are expected as the probe progresses.
