Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday said differences between the BJP and its alliance partner Tipra Motha over seat-sharing for the upcoming village committee elections were natural and expressed confidence that the two parties would soon reach a consensus.
Speaking to reporters, Saha said disagreements were common among political allies and decisions were ultimately taken through discussions.
“Sometimes they want something and we do not. This happens. Ultimately, we will reach a decision. There will be consensus. It will be announced later,” he said.
Asked about the delay in finalising the alliance arrangement, Saha said there was not much time left and indicated that an announcement would be made soon.
The BJP and Tipra Motha are alliance partners in the state government, and differences have emerged over seat-sharing for the forthcoming village committee elections.
Saha also criticised CPI(M) national general secretary M A Baby over his recent remarks that the BJP-led coalition government had failed to deliver development in Tripura and that the Left was regaining political ground.
Reacting to the remarks, Saha said such statements had been repeated by the opposition and claimed that those criticising development in Tripura from outside the state did not have a proper understanding of the situation on the ground.
He said the development in the state could be seen by travelling from the airport to different parts of Tripura.
According to Saha, people visiting the state often did not have a complete understanding of the changes taking place, but acknowledged the development after travelling across different areas.
The chief minister also claimed that the Left’s support base in the state had declined and said its actual position would become clearer in the next Assembly elections.
