Dibrugarh: A Dibrugarh court on Thursday convicted the accused in six separate criminal cases, including five murder cases, and sentenced five of them to life imprisonment in judgments delivered on the same day.

The Court of the Additional Sessions Judge, Dibrugarh, found the five accused guilty under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sentenced each to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000.

The five murder cases were Sessions Case No. 131/2019, Lahowal PS Case No. 43/2019, State vs Sukram Murah; Sessions Case No. 227/2022, Dibrugarh PS Case No. 2239/2021, State vs Rajib Sukrang; Sessions Case No. 188/2022, State vs Biki Chetia; Sessions Case No. 258/2023, Moran PS Case No. 49/2023, State vs Raju Chutia; and Sessions Case No. 300/2023, State vs Dipu Mech.

In the sixth case, Sessions Case No. 330/2024, Tingkhong PS Case No. 52/2024, State vs Putul Garh, the accused was convicted under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The court sentenced Garh to four years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ?1,000.

Additional Public Prosecutor Chinmoyee Dutta represented the State in all six cases.

The judgments resulted in six convictions being recorded by the Additional Sessions Judgeโ€™s Court on a single day, including five life imprisonment sentences in murder cases.
