Guwahati: More than 11.38 lakh voters across five Assembly constituencies in Assam’s Nagaon district will be eligible to vote in the upcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election, newly appointed District Commissioner Aranyak Saikia said on September 7.
Speaking to reporters on the district’s election preparedness, Saikia said the electorate comprises 11,38,362 voters.
To facilitate polling, the Election Commission will establish 1,339 polling stations at 684 locations across the district.
As part of the security measures, the district administrations of Nagaon and Morigaon have directed residents to deposit all firearms in their possession from Monday.
Special provisions will be made for persons with disabilities and voters aged above 85 years, who will be allowed to cast their votes through the home-voting facility. Eligible service voters will also be able to exercise their franchise through postal ballots.
Saikia said 149 officials from Nagaon district would be deployed for election-related duties under the Election Commission.
A dedicated control room has also been established to assist voters and respond to election-related queries. Citizens can contact the facility at 1077 or 03672-238000.
Two strong rooms will be established for the by-election, with one located at Nagaon Government Higher Secondary Boys’ School and the other at Dawson Higher Secondary and Multipurpose School.
The district administration said all necessary measures are being put in place to ensure the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election is conducted in a smooth, free and fair manner.
