Guwahati: Residents of Guwahati and nearby areas have been advised to prepare for another spell of rain, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) expecting thunderstorms and lightning during the next 24 hours.
The advisory issued at 8:30 am on Saturday will be in force until 8:30 am on August 9. Rainfall in the city is expected to remain light to moderate, with amounts of up to 6 cm.
Some isolated places may receive heavier rain between 7 cm and 11 cm. Several parts of the city could face waterlogging, particularly low-lying areas and underpasses.
The conditions may slow vehicles and increase travel time, while heavy rain could also reduce visibility.
The weather conditions may temporarily affect power supply, municipal services, and ferry and boat operations.
Strong winds combined with wet soil could cause trees to fall, while landslides and mud slips may occur in areas vulnerable to such incidents.
People have been asked to stay updated on the weather and follow traffic advisories. The advisory also asks residents to take shelter during thunderstorms and avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in waterlogged and landslide-prone areas.
Slippery roads and unstable ground may create additional risks during the warning period.
