Dibrugarh: The Lekhapani Battalion of Assam Rifles has apprehended two alleged Over Ground Workers (OGWs) linked to the NSCN (IM) during an operation in Arunachal Pradesh’s Wara-1 area.
The operation was launched on Saturday based on intelligence inputs regarding the movement and activities of suspected OGWs associated with SS Maj Wangjen Pantha of the NSCN (IM).
According to Assam Rifles, the two individuals were also allegedly involved in efforts to recruit local youth into insurgent activities.
The apprehended persons were identified as Kekho Namet and Yumsen Mannow, both residents of Lazu village in Tirap district.
Preliminary interrogation reportedly indicated their alleged association with SS Maj Wangjen Pantha and the NSCN (IM). Security forces said the duo was allegedly involved in facilitating recruitment, providing logistical support, and assisting with the movement and communication of insurgent cadres.
Further inputs also allegedly linked them to a plan to facilitate the movement of an NSCN (K-YA) cadre, along with a weapon, to the group’s camp.
The apprehension is expected to provide security agencies with further leads into the alleged support network operating in the region, particularly regarding recruitment efforts, logistical assistance and the movement of insurgent cadres.
Further investigation and interrogation are underway.
