Imphal: The NSCN/GPRN Yung Aung faction (NSCN-YA) has claimed responsibility for an armed attack on a 21 Assam Rifles post at Tikhak Taipi village, near Longvi, in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district.
The attack took place in the early hours of August 14.
According to a statement issued by the group’s Ministry of Information and Publicity on the same day, a unit of the self-styled Naga Army launched the attack at around 3 am. The statement said the ensuing exchange of fire lasted about 45 minutes.
The NSCN-YA described the attack as a “direct and necessary action” and said it was carried out against what it called the “continued, unjust domination” of the Naga people. The faction also reiterated its demand for complete Naga sovereignty.
The group warned that its armed campaigns and operations against Indian security forces would continue and intensify until it achieves its stated political and territorial objectives.
The NSCN-YA also claimed that the attack prompted a response from security forces, who allegedly deployed reinforcements and drones to monitor the area and track the retreating attackers. According to the group, its unit later withdrew from the area.
The group further claimed that security forces suffered casualties during the exchange of fire but said the number could not be independently verified because the area had been sealed off.
Official reports from security establishments, however, confirmed that the Assam Rifles post came under heavy fire in the early hours of August 14 and that the force responded. No casualties among Assam Rifles personnel have been officially confirmed by authorities.
