Bajali: Assam’s Bajali district recorded 100% institutional deliveries and zero home deliveries during the first four months of the current financial year, from April to July 2026.
According to data from the district Health Department, the rate of institutional deliveries has improved steadily in recent years. It was 99.65% in 2024-25 and rose to 99.81% in 2025-26. It reached 100% during April-July 2026-27.
The data shows that all 713 deliveries recorded during the April-July period took place at health institutions.
Bajali recorded 3,167 institutional deliveries in 2024-25 and 3,321 in 2025-26. The number of home deliveries also declined from 11 in 2024-25 to six in 2025-26. No home deliveries were recorded during the first four months of the current financial year.
Health officials attributed the progress to continued efforts at the grassroots level.
Regular antenatal care, counselling for pregnant women, timely referrals, health awareness programmes and the involvement of frontline healthcare workers have helped encourage expectant mothers to choose institutional childbirth.
Institutional deliveries allow mothers and newborns to receive care from trained medical personnel. They also provide quicker access to emergency treatment if complications arise during or after labour.
