Guwahati: Congress MP from Jorhat and Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi on Thursday questioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s absence from the Lok Sabha, claiming that Shah has not attended the House since July 21.
In a post on X on August 7, Gogoi said, “Since 21 July, the Home Minister Amit Shah has remained absent from Lok Sabha.

The Congress leader’s remarks come amid the Opposition’s demand for a statement from Shah over the alleged action taken against student protesters in several BJP-ruled states.
Gogoi had raised the issue during a media interaction in New Delhi on August 3, calling on the Union Home Minister to address Parliament and explain the actions allegedly taken against protesters by state governments and government agencies.
“The Congress clearly demands that the Union Home Minister come to the House and make a statement regarding the vindictive actions taken against protesters by BJP-ruled states and their agencies,” Gogoi had said.
He also alleged that young women, girls and minor female students were being singled out amid the controversy surrounding the handling of student protests.
Gogoi questioned whether police complaints or FIRs would also be registered against people accused of using abusive language against women and minor girls on social media.
“We are witnessing specific campaigns being run against girls, young women and minor female students,” he had said, while questioning the action being taken against those allegedly targeting them online.
The Congress MP’s latest remarks have brought Shah’s reported absence from the Lok Sabha back into the political spotlight, with the Opposition continuing to seek the Home Minister’s response on the alleged treatment of student protesters and related issues.
