Umrangso: The second edition of the Sengya Tularam Trophy cricket tournament concluded at the Assam Cricket Stadium in Umrangso on Sunday, with Haflong United emerging as the champions.
A total of 15 teams from different parts of Dima Hasao participated in the tournament. The final was played between Dehangi Nayung and Haflong United, with the latter securing victory.
Haflong United received a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh as the winners, while the runners-up, Dehangi Nayung, were awarded Rs 1 lakh. The player adjudged Man of the Tournament received a Royal Enfield motorcycle.
The tournament was organised by the District Sports Office under the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC).
The tournament has been named after Senapati Tularam, regarded as the last Army General of the Dimasa Kingdom, to commemorate his bravery, valour and legacy.
Speaking to the media, Herojit Jidung, Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) in charge of the Sports Department, said the tournament was aimed at providing young cricketers from the district with a platform to showcase their talent and pursue opportunities at higher levels.
Jidung said the department would continue supporting young athletes across disciplines, including football, Taekwondo and boxing, to help them compete at state, national and international levels.
He also said sporting infrastructure in Dima Hasao had improved in recent years. According to Jidung, sports activities were previously concentrated on a common platform, while initiatives under CEM Debolal Gorlosa have led to the development of dedicated football grounds, cricket facilities and an indoor stadium.
The closing ceremony was attended by CEM Debolal Gorlosa, EM Probita Johari, EM Donpainon Thaosen, other Executive Members and MACs, along with several other dignitaries.
