Haflong: The North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) Legislative Assembly on Tuesday passed a Budget of Rs 1,232.56 crore for the 2026-27 financial year at the end of its two-day special session.
NCHAC Chairman Mohet Hojai announced the passage of the Budget after the House approved the estimates presented by Executive Member in charge of Finance Donphainon Thaosen and following the concluding speech by Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa.
According to the Budget, the Assam government has allocated Rs 889.75 crore under Grant No. 77 to the council for 2026-27. The allocation includes Rs 296.81 crore under the State-Owned Priority Development (SOPD), Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) and other heads, and Rs 592.94 crore towards establishment expenditure.
The state government has also earmarked Rs 231 crore under SOPD, Rs 10 crore for the construction of Dimasa Bhawan in New Delhi, Rs 50 crore as a special grant to the council and Rs 34 crore as grant-in-aid for payment of pending salaries and gratuities of council employees, including Class I and II officers.
The council informed the House that the unspent balance under previously approved schemes relating to SOPD, establishment expenditure, special grants and the 15th and 16th Finance Commission stood at Rs 646.99 crore.
For 2026-27, the council projected Rs 114.90 crore in revenue receipts from taxes, land revenue, forests, mines and minerals, transport and other sources.
The Budget estimated Rs 342.81 crore in revenue expenditure to meet salary and non-salary requirements of various departments under the council’s normal sector.
The council also earmarked Rs 30 crore for the Members of Autonomous Council (MAC) Development Fund.
