Guwahati: The Office of the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, has terminated the deployment of 37 Home Guards who had been attached as static guards, office personnel, and orderlies at the residences and offices of judges, former judges, politicians, senior police officers, and government institutions after the completion of their six-month tenure.
According to an order issued by the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, the Home Guards have been relieved from their duties with effect from July 31, 2026, in accordance with the provisions of the Assam Home Guards Act and Rules, 1947, as amended in 2015.
The order cites an earlier reference issued by the Directorate General of Civil Defence and Commandant General of Home Guards (DGCD & CGHG), Assam.
The order states that the personnel had completed the prescribed six-month deployment period and their attachments have therefore been discontinued.
The Home Guards were posted at a wide range of locations, including the residences and offices of serving and former judges of the Gauhati High Court, senior government functionaries, ministers, MLAs, police establishments, and public institutions.
Among the dignitaries and offices where Home Guards had been deployed were several Gauhati High Court judges, former judges, Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal, Congress MLA Bhupen Bora, former Meghalaya Governor Satyapal Malik, and former Prime Minister late Manmohan Singh.
Deployments were also made at the offices of the Commissioner of Police, Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Reserve Office, Record Building at Dispur, police stations, court complexes, and other government facilities.
The order lists all 37 personnel by name and specifies their respective places of deployment.
Police sources said the move is part of the routine rotation policy governing Home Guard personnel, under which deployments are reviewed after the completion of the stipulated tenure. No replacement list was mentioned in the order.
The order came into effect from the afternoon of July 31, 2026.
