North Lakhimpur: Two youths from Assam’s Lakhimpur district have faced separate tragedies while travelling outside the state for employment, with one reported missing in Odisha and another dying under mysterious circumstances in Kerala.
Pradeep Gogoi, a resident of No. 4 Nimuri village under Narayanpur, reportedly went missing on August 6 while travelling to Bengaluru aboard the 22504 Down Dibrugarh-Kanyakumari Vivek Superfast Express.
According to his family, Pradeep got off the train at Bhubaneswar railway station on the morning of August 6 but was unable to reboard when the train departed. Fellow passengers later contacted him and advised him to take a local train from Bhubaneswar at around 9 pm.
However, Pradeep later stopped answering calls from his family, and his mobile phone was subsequently found switched off. His whereabouts have remained unknown since then, causing growing concern among his relatives.
The father of two was reportedly travelling to Bengaluru in search of employment. His family has appealed for any information that could help trace him.
Meanwhile, Bitul Gogoi, from Ujani Phukan Gaon under Ghilamora Police Station in Dhakuakhana, died in Kerala on August 4.
According to preliminary information, Bitul allegedly fell from a moving train while travelling in Kerala. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear and are yet to be established.
The two cases have renewed concerns over the difficulties and risks faced by migrant workers from Assam who travel to distant states for livelihood opportunities.
