Dibrugarh: Police have arrested a woman in connection with the alleged misappropriation of Rs 94 lakh from noted Dibrugarh physician Sarbeshwar Bhuyan, taking the investigation into the financial fraud forward.

The accused, Anamika Das (37), a resident of Seujpur in Dibrugarh, was arrested for her alleged involvement in the case.

According to investigators, the alleged fraud involved more than one person, and the arrest followed fresh leads indicating the involvement of additional suspects.

Police said Das worked as a receptionist at Sun Diagnostic, a pathological laboratory in Dibrugarh where Bhuyan also provided medical consultation and services.

Earlier, police had arrested Amit Dey (34), a laboratory technician employed at GM Hospital, in connection with the case. He was the first accused to be taken into custody following allegations of misappropriating the doctor’s funds.

Investigators are continuing to probe the alleged conspiracy, recover the misappropriated amount and determine whether more people were involved in the fraud.
