Imphal: Director General of Police (DGP) Mukesh Singh, IPS, accompanied by Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order) Lhari Dorjee Lhatoo, IPS, visited Manipurโs Kangpokpi and Senapati districts on Sunday, marking his first official tour of the two northern districts since assuming office, according to an official statement.
The visit comes at a significant time amid ongoing tensions between the Kuki-Zo and Naga communities, with reports indicating that six Naga civilians and fourteen Kuki individuals have remained in the custody of rival groups for nearly a month.
During the tour, the DGP held meetings with senior police officials and reviewed the prevailing law and order situation, security arrangements, operational preparedness and key achievements of the district police units. He also assessed the overall functioning of the police forces in both districts.
Mukesh Singh interacted with district administration officials, commanders of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and representatives of several Kuki and Naga civil society organizations. Among the Kuki groups present were the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, Kuki Women Union (KWU), Kuki Studentsโ Organization (KSO) Sadar Hills, Thadou Inpi Sadar Hills, TYA and TWA.
Naga organizations participating in the discussions included the United Naga Council (UNC), Naga Women Union (NWU), All Naga Studentsโ Association Manipur (ANSAM), Naga Peoplesโ Organization (NPO), Senapati District Studentsโ Association (SDSA) and Senapati District Womenโs Association (SDWA).
Addressing the gathering, the DGP reiterated that the rule of law applies equally to all citizens and assured that the police would continue to function impartially and professionally, without fear or favor. He appealed to all sections of society to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace, public order and security.
According to the statement, the visit was conducted in a cordial atmosphere and helped strengthen coordination among the police, security forces, civil administration and community organizations. Officials expressed hope that such engagements would contribute to lasting peace, stability and development across the region and the state as a whole.
