Imphal: The implementation of the Imphal Ring Road project is underway following the near-completion of land acquisition, barring a single stretch in Imphal East district, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh informed the Manipur Legislative Assembly on September 7.
Speaking during the morning session of the ongoing 12th Assembly, the Chief Minister responded to a calling attention motion moved by Opposition MLA K. Meghachandra Singh.
He attributed the initial delays in the Asian Development Bank (ADB)-funded project to protracted land acquisition processes and ongoing law and order challenges.
Updating the House on the financial progress, Singh stated that Rs 105 crore has already been disbursed in land compensation, with an additional Rs 60 crore scheduled for immediate release.
The remaining land hurdle is localized to the Khurai Ipum Pat area in Imphal East. “Once the Khurai Ipum Pat acquisition is finalized, construction will accelerate,” the Chief Minister said.
The tendering process has concluded in alignment with ADB guidelines and approvals. To date, the state government has invested Rs 189 crore as its state-share contribution toward the civil works component.
To streamline the remaining phases, State Public Works Department (PWD) officials met with ADB representatives in August to finalize operational modalities.
