Guwahati: Tension resurfaced in Manipurโ€™s Kangpokpi district on Thursday, August 27, after armed miscreants allegedly ambushed Naga civilians along the IT Road, killing at least four people, injuring one and leaving another missing, sources said.

The incident reportedly took place around 8:30 am between Makui Ashang and Thanamba Naga, along a route frequently used by Naga communities living in the area. According to sources, the victims came under attack when armed assailants allegedly carried out the ambush.

At least four members of the Naga community were reportedly killed in the attack, while another person sustained injuries. One more individual was reported missing following the incident.

The attack has renewed tensions in Kangpokpi, which has witnessed recurring violence since ethnic clashes broke out across Manipur in May 2023.

Police had not officially confirmed the incident at the time of reporting. The identities of those killed and injured, as well as details surrounding the attack, are yet to be established. Further information is awaited.
