Imphal: The decomposed body of a 42-year-old woman who had been reported missing was recovered from the Wangjing River in Manipurโs Thoubal district on August 11, police said.
The deceased was identified as Khundongbam Bidumakhi Devi, a resident of Heirok Part 2 under Heirok police station. Her family had reported her missing on July 22.
According to police, the body was noticed floating in the river and was subsequently retrieved. The remains were identified by her family members. Police said the woman had previously experienced health and family-related difficulties.
A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
A forensic and autopsy team visited the recovery site to document the scene, collect evidence and conduct preliminary medico-legal procedures. The body was later taken to a hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, some local residents have raised suspicions that the woman may have been murdered and her body disposed of in the river. Police, however, said no possibility has been ruled out and that all angles are being examined as part of the investigation.
