Imphal: A 48-hour coordinated operation along the Manipur-Assam border resulted in the arrest of two wanted individuals, while separate security operations in Thoubal district led to the apprehension of two active insurgents, including a woman cadre, police said on Sunday.
Acting on a requisition from T8-Guduvanchery Police Station in Tamil Nadu, Jiribam District Police launched a joint operation to track down two fugitives believed to be hiding near the Assam border.
Manik Uddin Laskar, 22, a resident of Cachar district in Assam, was arrested on August 28 along the Lalpani-Rasidpur Inter-Village Road.
His alleged accomplice and wife, Bhagabati Majhi, alias Ayesha Begum, 21, from Kendujhar district in Odisha, was arrested the following day from Kashimpur village.
Both suspects are being handed over to Tamil Nadu Police for further legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, security forces conducted separate operations in Thoubal district against members of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party-People’s War Group (KCP-PWG).
A joint team comprising Thoubal District Police and security forces arrested 37-year-old Laishram Abem Devi, an alleged active woman cadre of the outfit, during an operation in the Nambashi Horton area.
In another operation, security personnel apprehended 32-year-old Loukham Santa Singh from the Kakmayai Lamkhai area.
Both alleged insurgents remain in custody as further investigation is underway.
