Imphal: Internally displaced persons (IDPs) under the aegis of the Kangpokpi District Internally Displaced Welfare Committee (KDIDWC) staged a sit-in protest demanding the immediate release of pending Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) funds.
The committee cited financial distress, delays in monthly allowances and declining food stocks in camps.
According to official Right to Information (RTI) data, Kangpokpi district recorded 15,694 internally displaced persons, the highest number of displaced people among Manipur’s districts.
Protesters at the Kangpokpi district headquarters raised slogans demanding the immediate release of DBT assistance, educational support and non-discriminatory treatment between camp and non-camp residents.
The KDIDWC said the delay in receiving July financial assistance had left families struggling to purchase food, medicines and pay school fees.
The committee appealed to the Manipur government to establish a fixed monthly disbursement schedule and ensure timely support for all eligible displaced families.
Protests across districts erupted following allegations that the state government had halted monthly ration allowances for displaced families staying outside designated relief camps, including those living in rented houses or with relatives.
