Imphal: The Meitei Alliance has formally petitioned the Joint Monitoring Group (JMG) to abrogate Manipur’s Suspension of Operations (SoO) tripartite pact with Kuki armed groups if ground rule violations are proven.
It has rejected attempts by the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and United Peopleโs Front (UPF) to dismiss allegations raised by the state regarding systematic violence and camp desertions.
The Meitei Alliance is a transnational platform of Meitei diaspora and community organisations. It advocates the protection, peace and territorial integrity of Manipur and addresses issues concerning the Meitei community at regional, national and international levels.
In a statement, the Alliance said the JMG must focus on whether cadres left designated camps, carried weapons into conflict zones or engaged in direct violence.
It said allegations against other groups do not exempt the KNO and UPF from being held accountable for the actions of their own armed members.
Referring to the updated 2025 ground rules, the Alliance demanded public disclosure of monitoring reports, investigations and punitive measures taken by the authorities.
It also said that charges involving murder, extortion, abduction and assaults on civilians or security personnel should be tried under applicable Indian laws.
The Alliance said that if formal inquiries establish that specific factions under the ceasefire crossed the legal threshold for designation as terror groups, the central government should apply the corresponding legal provisions.
Rejecting demands for partition, the Alliance argued that demographic changes and segregation resulting from violence should not form the basis for creating a separate Union Territory or granting political concessions.
It said the updated ceasefire terms require strict adherence to the territorial unity of Manipur and that conflict-driven divisions should not be formalised into permanent political boundaries.
