Imphal: Non-camp internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Churachandpur district submitted a memorandum to Manipur Chief Secretary P. K. Goel through Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar on Thursday, urging the state government to revoke the suspension of monthly Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) assistance and adopt a transparent rehabilitation policy.
Dozens of displaced individuals gathered outside the Mini Secretariat gate in Churachandpur to voice their grievances. Security personnel briefly intervened before allowing a delegation to enter the premises.
The memorandum challenged the reported decision to halt monthly DBT funds for families living outside official relief camps. The signatories stated that families had left formal camps due to severe overcrowding, poor sanitation and health risks, while relying on the promised continuation of financial support.
Displaced residents depend on the daily allowance of Rs 84 per person to meet basic needs, including food, medical care and children’s schooling.
The petitioners called for the immediate release of pending funds, continuation of ration benefits for all eligible beneficiaries and a transparent framework for long-term rehabilitation.
Churachandpur district hosts approximately 33,000 IDPs, with around 15,000 residing in official relief camps and more than 18,000 living outside camps.
